Why Gender X passport doesn’t work for me:
It is because of my transgender intersectionality with my Sex not matching my Gender that this X passport does not work for me.
My body and physiology appear intersex. I have not had surgeries to change my physiology to appear a male. Yet, I live full-time as a man. For me, my sex traits do not have to match my gender identity. I know for some this is a must, and they are valid. I received the first intersex birth certificate in Colorado, and I still live as a man. My sex is intersex, my gender identity is a man. They do not match and I celebrate this about myself.
The Gender X Passport conflates our sex traits with our gender identity. This is a celebrated solution for non-binary people, some transgender people, and some intersex people. It is not a solution for all of us. It is not a solution for me.
Like some transgender people, I can not conflate my sex traits with my gender identity man. I stand with some in the transgender community that are similar to me. Some are not wanting genital surgeries, and they are still valid as real men or women.
Self-determination is a must, for all of us. This Gender X Passport is a celebration for some of us, not all of us; and that is okay.
Like I said in my TEDx Talk:
“When you have met one intersex person, you have met one intersex person.”
Here is the United Nations Intersex Fact Sheet that states:
Intersex people are born with sex characteristics (including genitals, gonads and chromosome patterns) that do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies.
Intersex is an umbrella term used to describe a wide range of natural bodily variations. In some cases, intersex traits are visible at birth while in others, they are not apparent until puberty. Some chromosomal intersex variations may not be physically apparent at all.
According to experts, between 0.05% and 1.7% of the population is born with intersex traits – the upper estimate is similar to the number of red haired people.
Being intersex relates to biological sex characteristics, and is distinct from a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. An intersex person may be straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual or asexual, and may identify as female, male, both or neither.
Because their bodies are seen as different, intersex children and adults are often stigmatized and subjected to multiple human rights violations, including violations of their rights to health and physical integrity, to be free from torture and ill-treatment, and to equality and non- discrimination.

Self-determination is about our human right to exist as our authentic selves.
We are all Valid.
My added commentary after publishing this blog: I was asked what would work for me. To be honest, the way I see it, the best solution would be to remove all gender markers, and sex identifiers from our passports, birth certificates, and driver’s licenses. However, if I truly received what I wanted I would pick both, my sex traits: intersex, and my gender identity: man. Both my gender and my sex would be included separately. Like many people, I can not conflate my sex traits with my gender identity. I respect anyone who believes X is valid for them. I am simply wanting respect too.

in ohio the terf aclu went after an amendment not a correction, that still outs us in any background check whatsoever by showing the deadname and sex next to the correct name and sex. we now have X as an option but it has to come from M or F. im going to try to fight for X-F. as M-F doesnt work for me, even if it kinda describes me i was never male. and that was based on appearance of genitals, that dont reflect my sex, its but one component of sex. the brain is the only piece of sex categorization thats consistent across all subjects. your gender identity and expression is an expression of your brain sex. its not whatver your hormonal sex is, not your gonadal sex, not your genetic sex, not your secoundary characteristics or primarys all of which can change or be absent, its our brain sex, that self identification you speak too thats consistent. were all diffrent an were all going to have diffrent brain structure variance, an yes gender is cultural, yet its what our sexed brain chooses to use in navigation of those limited gender norms roles scripts and expectations wether in expression or hidding oneself within them. you cant recognize ones gender identity without recognizing it as an expression of their sex. were all more than just lines drawn in the sand of a spectrum seperated, we are all unique variant points in the constellations of sex and gender that does overlap to infinit degrees.

I appreciate the love. I think it is time that they stop marking SEX or GENDER on our passports or birth certificates. There are just too many of us who are being harmed by the conflation of sex with gender. I appreciate your thoughts. Self-determination is a must. Human diversity is beautiful. We are all valid.
