Human Rights, Intersex Activist, Intersex History, My Intersex Story

Eight Years ago today, Florida Court Declares My Sex Intersex

Today I Celebrate the legal emancipation of my actual sex, as intersex and gender identity as man. Eight years ago today, in January 24th 2018, the Magistrate of Florida Court declares my sex as intersex. She does this after my showing them my medical evidence and the Catholic Medical Board of Ethics at St. Vincents Hospital, agreeing that my sex is indeed is intersex. I would then take that certified court letter and give it to Colorado Department of Public Health Records, to ask that my wrong birth certificate be corrected with my actual sex, intersex.

By September 17th, 2018 I am granted the first Colorado intersex birth certificate signed by Governor John HickenLooper, and the State Registrar, A. Alex Quintana. This would lead to my TEDxTalk, Born Intersex: We are Human, as well as our being in the documentary Stories of Intersex and Faith. I have now educated at several universities, including Harvard Medical School in 2019, many organizations, and churches, with my colleague, and Christian Theologian, Megan K. DeFranza Ph.D. Together, we are changing this world for intersex babies.

My sex is now legally documented as intersex, and my real lived gender identity is man. To this day, I fight for the self-determination of all intersex babies. Some intersex people will want an intersex birth certificate and some will not. It is our right to declare who we are to the world, and to remain whole in our bodies as children. Only at the age of adult informed consent, should any intersex person be surgically changed.
