The United States 2020 Census didn’t include my sex. You see, my legal existence is not intersex, the way that I was born. September 2018 this erroneous error on my original birth certificate was corrected to my true sex: intersex. I am Proudly the First in Colorado to get an Intersex Birth Certificate. Any more when forms erase my legal existence I fix them, and will not enable a broken system that denies my existence anymore.
As you can see below on the form, that I mailed back, I added the legally accurate information about my true sex and my marriage to my husband. If I had marked it any other way I would have been lying. I refuse to lie, and will only share the truth on medical and government forms now. I patiently wait for information technology and for people to correct this very big problem of erasure.
Further, my husband is an endosex male, and my sex is intersex. This means our sex is NOT the same, and therefore this is NOT a “same-sex marriage”. We are also not opposite-sex husband/wife/spouse since intersex is not the opposite of male and I am not his wife. So, I simply made a box for “spouse” and marked it off. Although you can’t see it below, I also added my website and my phone number so they could verify that what I am saying is true.
In order to change this world, I will insist that my existence be counted. I don’t know if they are going to blow this off, or what will happen, but it is an attempt to change things. When I shared this on social media, many said they are going to be doing the same thing I have done. Good for them! Together we are stronger!
