The Ketogenic/Paleo Diet, in my case, is a life style and dietary answer to my dealing with my Mitochondrial Disease (which causes autonomic nervous dysfunction), EDS (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), CAH (Non-Classical/Atypical Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia), PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome), Celiac and Gluten Intolerance, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Borderline diabetes, Narcolepsy, Cataplexy, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Neuropathies, and so many other diagnoses that my body proves to medically have.
My Biological Sex is Intersex
Here is the catch; I have also been proven to be physically born biologically intersex through medical diagnosis, and documentation. This means my biological sex is intersex and not simply male or female. You can read more about me in My Intersex Story.
Due to self-education, and as a lifetime career as a medical patient, I learned that my body does best burning ketones, and turning ketones into energy (ATP), instead of glucose. On top of avoiding gluten and grains mostly since 2005. You see the typical Standard American Diet the body is stuck burning only glucose metabolism day in and day out. Many have proven that this is not healthy for any human being to always be burning glucose, let alone one born with the conditions I have endured. My mitochondria have proven to me that I have more energy and am less disabled burning ketones into energy (ATP).
How I got out of a wheelchair in 2014
The Ketogenic/Paleo Diet also helped me to resolve my cortisol and adrenal problems by increasing my cortisol production, as well as lowering my estrogen naturally. This resolving the autonomic dysfunction I suffered miserably from.
The next thing I did for myself was to start injecting more testosterone, emancipating my true gender identity, and now living hormonally as a non-conforming XX Intersex man, after living most my life appearing female and being assigned female at birth. Testosterone has helped my muscles to recover, due to my body needing it, and I now appear to this world and now have lived as a man for three years now.
Continued Weight Loss and Health Management
Recently, I am up for the challenge to get back down to 140 pounds again! I am only 5’5″ so this is a perfect weight for me, and will lower my body mass index to that of a typical male, which I would like. Even though I don’t look terrible right now I know I would feel and look better. I have 20 pounds to go!
When I reach it I will have lost 95 pounds from my heaviest weight back in 2004. Yes, at my heaviest I was 235 pounds at one time. WOOT! It is amazing when one’s body burns fat for energy. My blood cholesterol now looks better than those eating low-fat diets, and I eat 70% of my diet fats and oils, proving it is being burned as fuel instead of being stored as body fat or clogging my arteries. A glucose only diet was causing me painful neuropathies and destroying my nervous system. My muscle biopsy even proved the sugar damage.
My Self-Determination and my being respected as an XX Intersex Man By My Doctors.
I now know that I have the human right and the freedom to pick my own hormone levels, the hormones that make MY body and MY true gender identity happy and healthier. I am no longer a slave to what is “normal” to this mythical binary world that erased my existence all my life, and forced me, a biologically proven intersex person, to be a “girl”. My reproductive endocrinologist and primary care doctor have been amazed how well I am doing. They are having their own awakening around self-determination being the only proper thing to give to a patient.
Sad to say, before I had these doctors I was patient abandoned due to becoming taboo, falling out of medical compliance to past doctor’s medical protocol/treatments, and becoming labeled/diagnosed as transgender. In short, I was patient abandoned by many and outright refused further treatment. Some even mailing me certified letters firing me as their patient. I now have to go to doctors who are safe for LGBT people (and there are not many in my city), and even out of those few will see a person with all my medical complexities. I have had transgender friendly doctors even tell me they will not see an intersex person. The thing is, in the US there is no such thing as an internet medical expert for adult care. They do not exist.
I am very fortunate to have found two doctors. Many with rare diagnoses like me end up slipping through the cracks. I am lucky to have survived. I know I escaped a certain death.
