Poem: Valentine’s Day a Million Miles Away

Are you truly a million miles away,

when you are right here in my heart?

On this lonely path together

but so many miles apart

Each morning you rise with the sun

and greet me each with each and every day

Each night I become the moon to say Buona Notte e dormi bene

and I always welcome the vampires and the bats

***

Two hearts truly together forever now

but how?

Both too bruised and beaten by life to believe this is real or safe

Two hearts that beat to the rhythm of a different drum

Two nonconformist out of necessity

Music icons saving both of us

***

Two precious people

that this world tried to throw away

We are not trash to each other

This world was not made for us

we often say “same”

So we made it work for us

And then found each other!

***

Was it serendipity or miracle?

Who knows, you say

Who knows….

***

Will I ever hold your hand?

You say we do not know the future

My heart aches but it is not allowed to break

on this precious day, Valentine’s Day

I hold your heart

only because you let me

***

We are doing the best we can

Two broken!

Too broken!

But more put together than most

Truly, two precious rare gems!

A million miles away

***

Happy Valentine’s Day, my beloved friend.

Ti Voglio Bene.
