Poem: Our 30th Wedding Anniversary

Forever yours

Even if you are not here

Vows that will never be broken even in death

We would have celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary today

Your legacy still lives on because you loved me

Tonight I talked about you and our family again in Zoom

I walk through my empty house now that the kids are mostly grown

With memories surrounding me of all the gifts you left me

We survived what few could have

Year after year you were steadfast

Doing what you had to do

An amazing father

Amazing work ethic

But most of all

You showed me I was lovable

Even when I became a man

You loved me more, even

And for that

I thank you

and miss you terribly

It is all I can do

to not allow my heart to break

This world needs me still

You ordered me to live on

as you died in my arms

December

I heard your last heart beat

as I sang “Fix You”

It seems like a past life now

A way for me to cope

As our country falls apart

After everything we did to make it better

Here I am still an activist and educator

still fighting for our human rights

God help us all!

So many have died

That party in heaven grows and grows!

We always believed

Good will Win!
