My name is Joey

and I’m here to say,

I am intersex and that’s okay.

I love to dance, sing and play football too

and that does not make me different than you.

I love being me and you love being you,

there is so much we can do.

We can kick a ball,

or bake a cake,

we can be the best of friends and swim in a lake.

I’ll always be on your side if you are on mine.

We can be the best of friends

till the end of time.

By Joey

Joey is ten years old.  This is her message to the world today.

Her point is, being intersex doesn’t matter… a friend should like her for being her.

For Intersex Awareness Day 2018

She had No Voice

They said we need to take a second look
They said he needs to be fixed
She had no voice

*****

They said you now have a beautiful boy
They misplaced the words that would open our eyes
She had no voice

*****

They washed their hands clean and sent us on our way
The letter came and shed light on our anomaly
She was never given a choice

*****

He blossomed into a person

*****
His voice began to surface
He said I’m a person please call me she

They broke our trust

*****
They stole a choice
She has a voice

  2. It’s no secret that the vast number of children have a well developed sense of their own gender identity by the time they are 4yrs old. Intersex children are not an exception to that developmental reality. That was why John Money argued for genital surgeries and strict lying on the part of parents. He really argued that the presence or absence of a fully formed penis would determine the identity of a child. He knew full well that was impossible because if it were true transgender people would not exist and they do. He used elaborate logical fallacies, mischaracterizations and out right lies to market procedures that the practitioners could use to confabulate and misconstrue knowing that by the time their “patients” were old enough to come after them charges of malpractice wouldn’t stick. The whole thing – the medical management of intersex bodies was based on the morals and ethics of authoritarianism and greed.
